Problem

The initial version of the vessel detection interactive demo enjoyed success upon its launch, offering customers a preview of the data they would obtain upon purchase. However, as time passed, it became evident that the design, which aimed for a storytelling approach, posed significant usability challenges. Users found it cumbersome to navigate between locations and vessels due to the requirement for excessive scrolling. Additionally, the mobile display posed considerable difficulties, falling short of user expectations and hindering the overall experience.

Approach

To tackle the usability challenges encountered in the initial version of the vessel detection interactive demo, my primary focus was on enhancing user experience and usability. Beginning with a comprehensive evaluation of the current design, I pinpointed pain points and areas for improvement by gathering user feedback and conducting usability testing.

A pivotal aspect of the solution strategy was the implementation of a more efficient navigation system to alleviate excessive scrolling. This involved the addition of easily accessible locations for users to jump to, as well as clickable vessel markers that provide instant information upon interaction.

Additionally, I addressed the hurdles presented by mobile devices to ensure a seamless experience across all platforms. Embracing a responsive design approach, I optimized the layout and functionality of the interactive demo to cater to the most commonly used screen sizes and resolutions, thereby ensuring consistency and usability regardless of the device being used.
